Is drinking excessive water bad for health?

Q: I am a 27 years old woman who gets thirsty very frequently and drink a lot of water. I urinate very frequently too. I thought I was suffering from diabetes but my blood sugars are within normal limit. I have always been anaemic due to malnutrition. My skin feels very tight all the time and little warm. My hairs are very rough and dry. Is there something seriously wrong with me?

A:Excessive thirst and frequency of urination may not always be due to a high blood sugar/diabetes. There may be other causes to it including other hormone imbalances (thyroid/diabetes), compulsive water drinking behaviour, anaemia, etc. Taking excessive amounts of water not only causes a feeling of weakness but also salt imbalance. Restrict on liquids intake to not more than 2 litres/day. Get treatment for anaemia. Eat a more balanced diet with plenty of proteins and vitamins. Your skin and hair texture do suggest some malnutrition features.
