Is a shoulder x-ray safe during pregnancy?

Q: I have shoulder pain from the last 2-3 years, which I did not pay attention to but now it has become worse and I am 8 months pregnant too. So, I went to the neurophysician and he told me to get an X-ray done for the shoulder, neck and backbone. I got these done and also told him that I am 8 months pregnant. Now I am scared if this will harm my baby? Is X-ray harmful for the baby?

A:In the 8th month of pregnancy, X-rays appropriate to shoulder pain are safe for the baby provided the maternal abdomen has been screened off by the focussing of the machine or with a lead apron.
