Does the pain in a fractured bone persist after the plaster?

Q: I am a 33 years old male. I had a fractured my ankle recently. I am on a cast for the past 2 months. I have been asked to walk (with the cast on), in a normal manner. But wheneve I try to walk, I get a severe pain in the ankle. Once I stop walking, the pain goes. Is it normal to experience pain while trying to walk after a fracture?

A:There should not be any pain, though there can be some discomfort in trying to walk, after a fracture. If pain is persisting, you either need to get your plaster changed or get an x-ray done to check the position of the fracture. A displacement of bones can also cause this type of problem.
