Do Azoran and Livogen help people with iron deficiency?
Q: Do Azoran and Livogen help people with iron deficiency? Do these medicines have side-effects?
A:Livogen has no specific role and in fact may lead to iron overload unless you are anaemic due to iron deficiency. Azoran is the brand name; the name of the medicine is azathiorpine. It is given in transplant cases (such as kidney etc.) since it counteracts antibodies to foreign tissue. Basically it is used in auto-immune disorders. One of the possible reasons for ITP is that the body somehow kills its own platelets. Hence azathioprine may be of some help. Incidentally prednisolone does the same.
