Q: I had a thyroid problem when I was in class VIII and took treatment from INMAS, Timarpur. I underwent several tests and was on medicines till the doctor asked me to stop them as I was absolutely normal. Now I am married. I learnt that thyroid disease has no cure and one cannot get pregnant. Is it true? Can you tell me how to find out if one has this problem, its effect, causes, precautions etc.

A:A thyroid disease should not lead to any problem in conception or pregnancy if the thyroid functions are normal. The best thing for you to do is to go to physician (endocrinologist) and have your thyroid function checked. If it is normal, you could probably go ahead with pregnancy. If it is abnormal, you can take the appropriate treatment and then try for conception.
