Can one swim with a reduced cartilage?

Q: My husband is having pain in his leg while exercising. After undergoing tests it was found that his cartilage is reduced so he is taking Rejoint tablets (Glucosamine Sulphate and Chondrotin Sulphate). He is advised not to use the tread mill. I would like to know if he can do cycling & swimming?

A:Swimming would be a better option for him as it is a non-weight bearing exercise and will give time for the leg to heal.
