Can I transmit chicken pox infection to a 4 days old baby?

Q: My 7 year old son has chickenpox. Can I still go and see my sisters newborn baby who is 4 days old? I have had chickenpox when I was 10 years old and I am 27 now. Would this put the baby in danger at all and could she catch it? If so, how long do I have to stay away?

A:You can safely go to your sisters house and see her 4 days old son. Since you have already suffered from Chickenpox as a child, you are now immune, and can not transmit the disease to either your sister or her son. However, do not put your child in contact with either of them at least for the next two weeks.
