Are there any standard tests for hepatitis?

Q: Is there any classical text book or standards laid down by any medical authority on hepatitis that defines any mandatory diagnostic tests for different types of hepatitis (A, B, C, alcoholic) once a patient is found to have Liver Function Test abnormalities like elevated liver enzymes and suspected to be suffering from hepatitis? Is there any specialist body or organisation in India that lays down standards for diagnostic tests for different conditions/diseases or is it just left to the individual doctor/ specialist to decide from his experience and knowledge?

A:There are several very good text books on liver diseases, but one should realise that many advances in liver disease are continuing to develop in a fast manner and this makes it very difficult to include all the relevant recent investigations in text books. One should need to update the knowledge by reading journals. The choice of investigation will have to depend upon the availability of the tests and every major centre of liver disease in India should have most investigatory expertise.
