Are skin patches better than oral tablets for HRT?

Q: My daughter is 38 years old. She is on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the past 5 years. How is the use of skin patches instead of oral tablets for hormone replacement therapy superior?

A:Firstly, it is important to know the indication of HRT but in the present context the indication of HRT is not known. However, in general, transdermal patches are better than oral medication as it has additional beneficial effects on protein metabolism and body composition and side effects are less as compared to oral medication. Its role in prevention of fracture due to osteoporosis is same as that of oral oestrogens.
