Are protein powders effective for weight loss?
Q: I am 39 years old, diabetic and overweight. I am in a stress related job and also suffer from high BP and am taking medicines for both diabetes and high BP. I have heard that protein granules and powder (soya) are helpful in weight reduction and also diabetes. I want to know whether it is true.
A:I will not advise you to take protein powders to lose weight. The best way to lose weight and also manage diabetes and blood pressure is to consume a health balanced diet. Taking extra proteins may be harmful to your kidneys as you are diabetic but I cannot comment on this since you have not mentioned if it is under control or not. It will also be nice if you discuss this option with your doctor since he knows about your blood pressure and sugar profile best.
