Q: I have a 76 years old father. My father was on a drug called Pioglit, which led to weakness in his heart. Recently, he got hospitalised for this. The drug has been discontinued now and his heart is in a stable condition. My father is about to get discharged. All the ECG reports are normal. In spite of diabetes for last 28 years, he has always been very active. Would he still be affected after this episode?

A:Diabetics are prone to various complications, which are dependant on: duration of the disease, degree of poor control, associated high BP, high cholesterol, protein in urine, poor kidney function, etc. If the ejection fraction of your father's heart is normal, he should remain healthy and active. Hope for the best.
