Q: What is thermal ablation? Is it an alternative to removal of the uterus for treatment of endometrial hyperplasia for a patient of 50 years? Any side effects?

A:Thermal ablation is a procedure by which the endometrium is burnt by heat generated through a balloon. It is not an alternative for removal of the uterus in case of abnormal endometrium. Side effects- patient may still bleed after the procedure and not effecting in bulky uterus and may have discharge also.
