Q: My 7 years old son has been diagnosed with cylindrical eye power of -2.5 in both eyes. Is watching TV the reason for his high eye power? If he regularly wears the glasses, will his number decrease?
A:Wearing glasses will not make the power better. It only improves the sight. Cylindrical lenses mean he has astigmatism, which is due to oval shape of the eyes and as such not a disease. He is born with it and should not change a lot over the years. Make sure that his sight is normal with glasses on otherwise he will get headaches when he uses his eye for any length of time. Watching TV from close is not the cause but result of this defect.
