Q: My wife is 31 years old and had an ectopic ovarian pregnancy and emergency laparotomy was performed. The doctor performed right salphingo-oophorectomy and left sided tubectomy. One ovary was removed and the doctor confirmed that the other ovary is fine. I have 2 children, a 5-year-old girl & a 9-month-old boy. My wife had a copper T, but even then the pregnancy occurred. Now she is fine. Is it safe to have sex? Will the removal of one ovary affect my wife in any case? Will this lead to early menopause?

A:Yes it is safe to have sex and no, the removal of one ovary should not cause too many problems; and in case it does, then there is always the option of taking HRT - or hormone replacement therapy. A small percentage of patients may have early menopause.
