Q: I am a 28 years old man having enlarged prostate with abscess formation in it. Some doctors suggest that abscess should be removed while some of them say that if the prostate is touched then my married life will be in problem. What should I do? Should I go ahead and remove the abscess with surgery? I have been taking medicine for the last 2 months but gave no relief. Please advise.

A:An abscess has to be drained irrespective of its location in the body. You have carried it for last two months. You cannot continue taking antibiotics life long. Transurethral drainage of the abscess may carry some risk of retrograde ejaculation, but does not affect intercourse or climax. Prostatic abscess, however, may also be drained transrectally with a needle without such risks.
