Will a high TLC count affect my pregnancy?

Dr Shirish Kumar

Q: I am 7 months pregnant. I had taken a complete blood count test for TSH ultra sensitive. The result shows that I have 5.959 against maximum of 5.500. My leukocyte count is 13.20 against the maximum of 11.30. Blood picture says normocytic, normochromic; there is leucocytosis with mild neutrophilia. What is the problem and will it affect the baby?

A:There is an increase in white blood cell count (TLC) during pregnancy, which is a normal physiological response. Make sure that you are not anaemic and take regular iron and folic acid tablets.
