Q: A 24 years age girl is detected as HBsAg positive, she did not take any vaccine for hepatitis B. Will it create any complications in pregnancy? Suggest something for her and her would-be-husband?
A:The need for treatment will depend upon the results of her lab tests: HBeAg, anti-HBs, serum ALT etc. There should be no problem regarding pregnancy. The newborn can be protected by giving the HBV vaccine and ant-HBs immune globulin at birth. The girls future husband should be vaccinated before any sexual contact.
