Why does my wife has irregular periods?

Q: My 26 years old wife has irregular periods with a thick discharge for the last 3 years i.e. after her first delivery. She had used Copper T for birth control and removed it last year. Before delivery, she was having regular periods of 3 days. What is the reason for irregular periods?

A:I need to know, if there is any abdominal pain or fever or burning in the urine. If is so, it may be due to infection, in which case she can take a course of antibiotics with a follow up with a gynaecologist for persisting infection. If these are absent, but she has been taking oral pills, then it could be due to the pills, which can be tolerated in the interest of contraception. Periods become all right after the pills are stopped.
