Why does my baby girl get so startled?

Q: My five months old baby girl seems to be a very nervous baby. She always gets scared, she sleeps with noise, we can talk, watch TV while she is sleeping but if she hears a different sound, she wakes up startled and this happens every time. Please help me with this matter.

A:Babies startle easily with sudden loud unusual sounds. This is not abnormal. Babies will often sleep through loud regular noises and get upset or awaken with a slightly different sound. Even when they are awake they don't like sudden noise and often start crying. Your baby is not abnormal. This is very common so please do not worry.
