Why do my wife's eye balls keep moving constantly?
Consultant Ophthalmologist,
Shroff Eye Centre, New Delhi
Q: My wife has a problem with her eye balls. They do not remain still like ours and keep on moving constantly. She cannot see things clearly. She has this problem since her childhood. She had spectacles of power (-)8, but she underwent laser surgery two years ago. She did not visit the laser surgeon as per the specified schedule after the first six months. We have visited many doctors but no one gives us the remedy. Is this curable?
A:The history given by you suggests a condition called nystagmus, which is from childhood. In this condition the brain does not have good control over the eye movements and the eyes spontaneously move repeatedly. It is not possible to control the movements medically. It is important to get a complete eye checkup every year for a patient who has a high minus power.
