Q: I am 34 years old male suffering from chest pain for the last one week. I consulted a doctor who diagnosed it as costochondritis. But I'm not having inflammation in the area. My pulse rate is 82/minute and latest blood pressure readings are 120/80 mmHg. I need to sit in front of a computer for 8 hours a day. Does this affect me?

A:The history relates to a young corporate officer of 34 years. He complainsof chest pain but there are no more details that whether it is constant oris there any aggravation with activity or exercise. Most likely it may benonspecific in nature but more detailed history will help to rule out anyunderlying cardiac cause. He may be advised to consult the local physicianagain and in case of doubt an ECG Exercise (TMT) can be done to rule out anyunderlying Coronary Artery Disease. As he has a sedentary job, he should tryto do regular exercise, be careful about eating habits and should not smokeif he is doing so.
