Q: I am a 30 years old man having pain in legs, hand, foot and thighs. My cholesterol level is at the borderline but have not crossed level till date. My uric acid level is 6.7 mg/dl. What could be the reason for the pain in my body?

A:First, it is important to understand that uric acid has nothing to do with any body pains or aches. Rarely, it can cause severe acute swelling and pain that comes suddenly at the base of the big toe. But, usually this happens in persons who have a similar family history (father uncles, brothers). Therefore, in the absence of any such history, uric acid is not the cause of your pains.Secondly, it is very difficult to suggest any thing about the pains without proper clinical evaluation. Therefore, I suggest that you should immediately take consultation with a rheuematologist (not an orthopaedic surgeon).
