Q: I am 26 years old. I am taking the tablet Rx propranolol hydrochloride (40 mg-0-20 mg) for hypertension since last year. I underwent a scan last year, and the doctor said that my kidney was working fine. Last month I underwent a 24-hour urine protein test, and the report showed my protein content as 312 mg/day. Is my problem serious? How can it be cured?
A:Mild elevation of protein in the urine may be related to hypertension. You should target blood pressure control to less than 140/70 mm Hg. The preferred drug may be an ACE inhibitor or an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). However, before taking any drugs, you would need to consult with your treating doctor.
