Why do I feel pain in my thigh?

Q: I am a 40 years old man who has been treated in a conservative way for tear of AC ligament along with grade II tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus and lateral co-lateral ligament grade II tear (while playing football) of my right knee (as per MRI) for the last three and a half years. And subsequently after three and a half years of exercises there was no pain, effusion or lock of right knee. But now I have a lower back pain along with a tingling sensation from right hip joint to thigh. I take Neucobal OD daily, which gives me relief temporarily. MRI of lumbosacral spine was absolutely fine. Am I taking the correct treatment?

A:Pain/tingling coming from hip to lateral thigh can be due to following causes:

  • Lumbar disc herniation
  • Osteoarthritis of the hip joint
  • Meralgia Paresthetica.
Since your lumbar MRI is normal, I would recommend getting a X-ray pelvis with both hip joints to see for any arthritis and if that is also normal then one can proceed for further testing depending on your physical examination.
