Q: Why do children develop fever after getting DPT vaccine?
A:The P component of the DPT vaccine causes the febrile reaction, pain and swelling in roughly 20% to 30% of subjects. This is reduced substantially (<3-5%) by using the more expensive DPaT vaccine with acellular P component.
