Why am I suffering from heavy bleeding?

Q: I am a 29 years old female who delivered a boy through c-section 10 months back. Two months back, I had irregular scanty periods and now I have started bleeding, which is quite heavy. There is no pain or any other discomfort. Is this heavy flow ok? I am still breast feeding my baby. The bleeding is bright red with small clots (dark red) in the pad and I experience the same while passing urine.
A:With regular breast feeding, the menses should settle down on its own. Menses return after delivery in 3 to 6 months, and the first few cycles may be with no egg formation, later it can settle itself. A menses diary can be kept to note details of cycle dates, amount of bleeding and pain. If all is well, only some iron and vitamins B and C are enough. If not, need to have a scan and follow up with other hormone preparations for heavy bleeding, or D&C.
