Why am I getting urethral discharge?

Q: I am a 20 years old boy and release prostatic fluids often. Will it have any adverse affect on my sexual life? Please advise.

A:You may be having discharge per urethra or emissions at night. How do you know the fluid is prostatic and not urethral? While nocturnal emissions, or wet dreams as these are more commonly known, are absolutely normal in teens and young adults. Urethral secretions may also occur during day time in response to erotic stimulation. Urethral secretions following an unprotected sexual exposure could be more serious and will need further investigations. You must see a urologist who would elicit a full history and perform physical examination before making any conclusions.
