Q: Since I have heard that trans fats are bad for the heart, which are the foods readily available that contain trans fats? Is margarine made from vegetable or animal fats or both? Does it contain trans fats? Even if it does not, is it safe for heart health compared to butter?

A:Most of the ready to eat snack foods like chips, maida cookies, biscuits, etc are made of trans fat or hydrogenated or vanaspati fats. Do read labels properly for more details. Margarine is made from vegetable oil but contains trans fatty acids and so is not good for health.
