Q: One of my close friend is suffering from HIV. The CD 4 count is more than 200. He is physically fine without any problem. Our family doctor has suggested him to not take any tablets as they may have some side effects. But we are afraid and wanted to start treatment. I would request you to kindly tell whether it is advisable to take medication when the patient is in good condition? If so, what medicines?

A:Currently the recommendations are that a person start ARV when his/her CD4 count is below 200. I suggest that you follow the advice of the treating physician.
