When do you regain normal vision after cataract surgery?

Q: How long will it take to regain normal vision after cataract surgery? What are the reasons for the vision being better before surgery than after it? I underwent cataract surgery of the left eye and my vision before surgery was better than after surgery.

A:Usually there is mild inflammation in the eye for the first few days and could be a cause for less vision after surgery than before surgery, specially if the surgery was done when the cataract is at an early stage, when it causes glare or dull vision at night/day. After an uneventful cataract surgery, the vision starts recovering in the first 2-3 days and usually reaches its maximum in the third week in the case of phacoemulsification and 6 weeks in the case of conventional surgery with stitches. If the vision continues to be blurred along with pain, severe redness, or discharge, one should report it immediately to the operating surgeon.
