Q: I underwent kidney transplant 3 months ago. I want to have a baby now. Can I have a baby now itself? If no, then when can I have a child? Is my medicine going to affect the newborn child? I am on Cyclosporin 200, Cellcept 750, Predisolone: 17.5mg and Minipress XL 2.5mg and Aten 50.
A:For women who have had kidney transplant and wish to conceive, it is generally recommended that they should be at least 1-2 years after the transplant, no recent acute rejection episodes and serum creatinine less than 2 mg%. For men, no such restrictions exist. Although the state of overall health including kidney function may directly or indirectly impact fertility, like sperm count, etc.
