What to do in case of a dogbite?

Q: Last night while walking, a stray dog attacked me. It was not able to bite me but there are scratch marks on my arms but no blood mark. I have washed the area with soap and water. Since this morning I am feeling sleepy and having pain in the scratched area. Could you please advise what needs to be done and is there any cause for worry? I have not taken any TT injection for the last 6 months.

A:If you have had a complete course of TT and a booster every five years or so you are well covered for tetanus. I would recommend a course with a broad spectrum antibiotic (Augmentin is the best for bites). Check on the status of the dog to ensure there is no risk of rabies. If there are concerns seek medical advice immediately.
