Q: I am a 27 years old married diabetic woman having a history of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOD). Now I am trying to conceive. I am taking Metformin 1 gm twice daily, Eltroxin 50 mg, Ovacare and folic acid 10 mg daily. My fasting insulin level is 33 mIU/ml. The doctor has told me that I can start the treatment only after the insulin level comes to normal. What should I do to reduce the insulin level?

A:Insulin levels it self will not affect the pregnancy directly. As such there is difficulty in conceiving in this condition. I suggest you to go ahead with pregnancy even with these levels. These levels can down with diet and exercise as well along with Motormen. Other medications, which can reduce insulin levels, is Rosiglitazone 2-4 mg per day.
