Q: I am a 24 years old male. I would like to know about the diet and food intake of a person with high and low TSH values. Please suggest.

A:High TSH means hypothyroidism and low TSH means hyperthyroidism. Both refer to a thyroid dysfunction. Most common cause of thyroid dysfunction is autoimmune derangement, which is not related to diet. After universal salt iodinisation programme in India, iodine deficiency is not common. Few decades ago iodine deficiency was an important cause of hypothyroidism. There are no specific recommendations in diet for patients suffering from thyroid disease.
