Q: I am 70 years old and suffering from benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH). Which is the latest and the safest method in surgery for it? I came to know that P.V.P. i.e. Photoselective Vaporisation of Prostate (also called as Green Laser Surgery) is a novel surgery. Please advise.
A:The gold standard for surgical removal is transurethral resection of prostate (TURP). The Holep is good in some expert hands but not many urologists advocate it. The PVP doesn't remove the prostate but vapourizes it. The lasers are still a second choice after TURP.
