Q: It has recently been found that my 6-year-old son has 5-6 calculi of 1-2mm size in his gall bladder. We have taken several opinions from different doctors, but the only common opinion is that surgery is eminent. Please tell me the treatment for gallstones in a 6 years old kid? Is there any kind of non operative treatment available? What type of a diet would you suggest?
A:Well first it is very important to rule out any underlying aetiology for it. It's not important to go for surgery immediately. I would recommend you to rule out haemolytic causes and check his lipid profile. There are no dietary restrictions if the lipid profile is normal.
