Q: My father is diagnosed with bilateral hydroureteronephrosis, grade 2 prostatomegaly with post-voidal residue. His serum creatinine is 5.4mg/dl. Please suggest a remedy. Can his serum creatinine levels be brought down?
A:Your father has most likely chronic urinary obstruction related to prostate hyperplasia resulting in kidney dysfunction. He should be catheterized for 3-4 weeks to see the reversibility of kidney function and it is possible that serum creatinine might decrease. Later, he should have resection of prostate by TURP operation.
