Q: My 27 years old lecturer friend had been suffering from frequent cough since 3 months. The reasons for the dry cough are not known. Moreover, he gets more cough while teaching. What could be the reason for frequent coughing? What is its treatment?

A:There may be a few reasons for his cough: (especially during a lecture)

  • Chalk allergy.
  • Not drinking enough water and so speaking on dry throat.
  • Allergy to air blast.
  • Faulty vocal hygiene, like changing voice while speaking.
(After lecture)
  • Allergy to dust.
  • Allergy to temperature changes.
  • Allergy to perfumes, etc.
Treatment:Avoid all above. Take short-term anti-allergic treatment.
