Q: I am a 56 year old male. I want to know the proper treatment for Hypopyon Corneal Ulcer. Is injecting the eye essential for a speedy recovery?

A:The treatment for hypopyon ulcer depends on the cause: infective or non- infective; mainly it is infective - bacterial, fungal, viral or mixed. The treatment includes debridement or cauterization of ulcer, anti infective agents, cycloplegics, if required anti glaucoma medications, control or removal of any aggravating factor like diabetes, immuno supressives, removal of any lash which may be rubbing the cornea, any exposure of cornea and dry eye. Sometimes these measures may not succeed and therapeutic corneal transplant may be done as a last measure.
