Q: What is the minimum corneal thickness required at the centre and periphery for lasik surgery? If the thickness is less than standard, what type of lasik surgery is preferred?
A:There is no single answer. Indeed, any thickness can be handled, provided you don't have Keratoconus. The best machine to diagnose is Pentacam, which gives true elevation maps of the cornea, thickness distribution maps, true posterior corneal analysis, and thickness progression indices. If the cornea is thinner, and even otherwise, modern surface epilasik offers best and most advantageous results.
