What is the correct age to repair a torn upper lip in children?

Q: My brother-in-law's daughter was born with a torn upper lip. The gums are normal. How can her upper lip be improved? Do we need to get it stitched? She is two months old.

A:She requires repair of cleft lip, preferably between the age of 2.5 to 4 months.
