What is the cause of blood in stools?

Q: I have noticed traces of blood coming in my stool. I have also had a history of worms in my stomach. Is it possible that the worms are the cause for it? What would be your advice for me?
A:Passage of blood through the rectum could be due to any one of the following common conditions:1. Piles2. Fissure3. Fistula in ano4. Polyp5. Proctocolitis.There are other causes also.You are advised to undergo a rectal examination, proctoscopy, and if required colonoscopy to determine the cause and site of bleed.
