What is the alternative for a kidney transplant?

Q: I am a female aged around 56 years old, diagnosed and found both the kidneys are failing and presently doctors are doing dialysis twice a week and doctors are suggesting for kidney transplant. My blood group is AB positive but I am not getting kidney for transplant. You are requested to suggest me what is the way out for this.

A:Your blood group is AB positive which means universal recipient - so you can receive kidney from a relative of any blood group. However the donor has to be a family member as per Indian Law. Cadaver transplant (Transplant of organs taken from brain dead persons) is not common and thus not available often. So donors have to be amongst family members. If none of them come forward then you have to continue on dialysis.
