Q: What is tendon grafting and how is the palmar tendon grafted? If there is rupture of long femoris tendon of index finger, what is the treatment?
A:In case of an acute traumatic rupture of a tendon, repair can be done with end to end suturing. However, as time goes by, the tendon retracts and it is difficult to oppose the ends to each other or in cases of tendon loss, direct repair may not be possible. Tendon interposition grafting may be required to reconstruct the tendon. The flexor tendon of the index finger is important for function though there are two of them - flexor digitorum superficialis and profundus. Depending on which tendon is ruptured, it can be treated accordingly.
