Q: What is bladder neck obstruction? How is it caused? Is there any treatment except surgery?

A:Now we are not fond of using the term bladder neck obstruction. Micturition is a complex and combined effort of the bladder outlet and the bladder muscle. Hence,as and when there is difficulty in urination it is better to look at the problem in totality. Only bladder neck stricture (narrowing) needs surgery, otherwise, we can manage majority of these cases without surgery with medicines alone. Beyond this it would be hard for you to understand. It would be better to consult a urologist and if he advises surgery have a second opinion with another urologist as irrational surgery at young age may prove deleterious.
