Q: I am a 46 years old man who underwent a liver function test (LFT) recently. The test showed Gamma GT – 61.3. What does it suggest and do I need to avoid drinking alcohol?
A:I note that you are concerned because of raised Gama GT. Gama GT is a sensitive liver enzyme, which is raised in presence of several conditions such as biliary obstruction, alcoholic liver disease, fatty liver, effect of drugs, etc. The slightly raised Gama GT as in your case should not be a cause of concern. My suggestions are: - 1. Repeat LFT including Gama GT2. Do ultrasound upper abdomen3. Do regular exercise & weight reduction4. Avoid alcohol (in case you consume it).
