What does my kidney X-ray report suggest?

Q: I am a 35 years old female whose X-ray report of the right kidney showed severe dilation of the pelivicalyceal system (PCS) with paper thinning of cortex. Multiple echogenic foci of varying sizes filling the calyces were also seen. What should be done? What does it indicate?

A:You need to undergo CAT scan imaging studies of the kidneys, ureters and the bladder to ascertain the exact cause of the blockage of the urinary tract as obvious from the X-ray, which possibly could include the kidney stones. In addition, it would be important to know the underlying each kidney's filtering function (often affected by the blocking lesion like stones) which can be undertaken by the renal scan. You should next consult a urologist to help guide your treatment.
