Q: I am a 33 years old man addicted to supari or pan masala (without tobacco) for the last eight years. How to diagnose whether I am suffering from cancer or not? I also consume alcohol (twice a week). I have decided to quit this habit also.

A:Alcohol abuse twice a week in itself is an issue and that needs to stop. Go to a general physician get a physical examination and blood tests done first. If there is any need then the doctor will send you for further work up but mention to your doctor your concern about cancer screening and alcohol use currently.

Drinking can lead to cirrhosis of liver, oesophageal cancer and other major complications so it is vital that you address this right away. Go to AA groups, see a psychiatrist and start taking naltrexone in order to curb your cravings / edge to drink.
