Q: My 21 years old sister has been suffering from high fever (104 degree Fahrenheit) with cough, especially during evening and morning, for the last one month. She is taking Levofloxacin 500 and Cefixime 200 daily, but the problem still persists. The MP test is negative. What could be the cause for persistent fever with cough and how can it be managed?

A:If the fever is related to a chest infection, she can continue the same antibiotics or change cefixime to cefuroxime or co-amoxyclav combination with levofloxacin and take the medication for 7-10 days. A sputum test and chest x-ray maybe done. However, if fever persists, other tests like widal, blood culture, sgot, urine routine maybe also required.
