Q: My 30 years old wife is in to her nineteenth week of pregnancy with twins. Yesterday, she felt some pain. We consulted a doctor who asked her to take Nidagen 200, Duvadilan retard and Perizole. She took all the medicines. Is she on right treatment for her pain? Does prescribed medication affects pregnancy outcome?
A:The commonest cause for pain in pregnancy is musculoskeletal pain (pain due to stretch of ligaments and muscles). There is no evidence that either of those medicines you wrote have any effect on the pregnancy outcome - that too at 19 weeks. I would therefore not recommend any medicine at all. Just take something like paracetamol for pain and on most occasions the pain will subside and the pregnancy will progress normally.
